I knocked on my future neighbours door before we submitted an offer. After having a crazy neighbour we swore we'd never move to a place without meeting the neighbours again. I realize it may have made me look weird but I didn't care. So if you are serious, knock and ask what's the neighbourhood like, services, amenities, etc. Our neighbours were happy to share; they really wanted a young family next to them.
I did this as well and boy did we dodge a crazy neighbor bullet! I went around after noticing the immediate neighbor was fostering 6 dogs in the little front yard, broken windows, gas tanks in the back yard, absentee owner. Meeting the neighbors was even more enlightening, as was going to the questionable use and meeting all the college students renting each bedroom! Real shame, beautiful house, neighborhood ad other neighbors!! In the case of a quick back to market. Maybe they just had to leave for another job or job offer??
