The facts may be that no one was in danger, but if he reasonably believed that the AR-carrying man was ready to open fire, then his actions were justified. While Utah has very generous open carry laws, and the AR-carrying man may have been/was acting lawfully, openly carrying an AR-15 has long been known to be provocative and dangerous - getting shot and/or getting other people shot has long been known to be a consequence of openly carrying a rifle. I could see charging/convicting the shooter going either way. I tend to fall on his side, depending upon what I have heard about the facts so far. But it could go either way.[/quote]
