The vast majority of protests start peaceful and stay peaceful throughout. Protests happen every single day in this country. How often do you hear about one becoming violent?

The person who killed the bystander intentionally shot the gun. Missing your target doesn’t negate the crime. There’s also a tort here.

That is a sliver of the facts and the law. That may be how it turns out, but there is always more to the analysis.

The shooter was acting in defense of others. The facts may be that no one was in danger, but if he reasonably believed that the AR-carrying man was ready to open fire, then his actions were justified.

While Utah has very generous open carry laws, and the AR-carrying man may have been/was acting lawfully, openly carrying an AR-15 has long been known to be provocative and dangerous - getting shot and/or getting other people shot has long been known to be a consequence of openly carrying a rifle.

I could see charging/convicting the shooter going either way. I tend to fall on his side, depending upon what I have heard about the facts so far. But it could go either way.

Still the guy with the AR15 gun was arrested for murder. According to CNN detectives

The peacekeeper hasn’t been charged with anything as of yet

The victim, Arthur Folasa Ah Loo, 39, was a clothing designer from Samoa. He was on the show Project Runway, he was married with two children. Sad.

If you search for the name of the arrestef guy on Google, the top results are a bunch of non-reputable no-name sites (and MSN, that just reposts spam from other sites, what the hell, Microsoft?) reporting false information about the shooting, before you get legitimate journalists like NBC news

Somewhere between 5 and 11 million Democrats turned out peacefully and the only instances of violence were from unhinged right wingers - shooter in SLC and the would-be shooter who tried pulling her gun on No Kings protesters, MAGA nutcases trying to mow down peaceful marchers in VA and CA, and Proud Boys, Patriot Front and other MAGAs shoving people, trying to bully, harass and agitate. Along with some unwarranted police-inflicted violence on protesters.

Anyone find a profile on the neon vest wearing “peacekeeper.” The 50501 movement should never have sent out a call for peacekeepers. They invited this crap. Bunch of yokels cosplaying. Were they vetted? Peacekeepers were allegedly told not to carry.
It’s the local police enforcement’s job.

50501 just shot themselves in the foot, in Utah of all places, where no one needs a permit/license to open carry. Secure spaces like schools, airports, and courthouses can opt to prohibit guns. Emphasis on the word opt.
