I don’t think I have enough detailed info about your mom and her dynamic with you to guess, but my mom does this and here is my best guess as to why - Everything is a power struggle. My mom has serious trust issues with people, some more so than others, but there is an overall pattern of distrust and aggression. When I ask her the most simple question, from when I was a young child until now, I will be met with the silent treatment, a glare, or a curt “I will tell you later”. Examples include me asking “mom?” “Can I have so and so’s address?” “What are you doing this week?” “Where were you?” “How come your late?” If I ask her why she behaves this way she will get very upset and say I am aggressive and hostile (when it appears she is the one actually behaving this way). It’s so difficult and as a result I learned try my best not to ask her questions as an adult to keep the peace. This too can get used against me though. If my mom is in a rare good mood she may answer a question and even talk about what she has been up to, especially if it’s a topic she wants to demonstrate she knows a lot about.
She sounds as if she has the mild to moderate paranoia that comes with certain forms of autism. There is also well-known paranoia (that can become much more severe) in untreated biploar disorder and schizophrenia, but you'd have noticed by now if she had either of those two diseases.
What is the disorder where people read a few sentences on the internet and think they can diagnose strangers?
There was about five to ten years of narcissism diagnosis on line . This is refreshing!!
