My kid was 99th percentile and didn't get in even before the lottery system. I suspect there are more 99th percentile kids in MCPS than there are spaces in the magnet program. The lottery likely further lessened their chances of getting in, but this has always been a thing. [/quote]

Now I see why no 3rd grader parents around me talking about CES acceptance or lottery at all. Everyone keep to themselves, and it seems like there are a lot of grief for parents with kids of high score not getting in. My child gets in luckily, and no, he is not 99 percentile. We are local CES school, so competition is a lot less. I wonder if the curriculum at our local CES is different than other CES programs because CES teacher says they are no big difference compared to regular 4th grade curriculum in general. [/quote]
