I'm 56 and my kids are in college. Watch out for places like Goodwin House in Alexandria and the such. They want you to buy in while in your 60's for a huge amount. It looks like the Ritz Carlton. Once you break a hip and need 24 hour care or god forbid memory care it's down right scary. They hide you away. The staff at the top make a lot of money but they never see what happens to the actual patients. The real caregivers are burned out. Be forewarned.
My parent in their 70s just had a really positive experience at the GH Bailey's Crossroads rehab. Parent lives independently currently in a condo but after that experience they are considering GH for independent living longer-term as they age. Not sure I'd move in at 55, but I think it could be a good place to be when older. And with enough independence for an introvert. I'm not attached or affiliated with GH but wanted to plug we had a great experience, even in the rehab section.
