I'm a Democrat, and I don't think this is a Republican led conspiracy by any means. Both sides of the aisle rushed to Petraeus' defense. (Inappropriately in my view, and largely because his egomania included a lot of cultivation of politicians and the press.)

And to the PP who thinks it's all irrelevant and private business, you are way wrong. Anytime you have national security officials this high up the chain involved in such sordid messes - adultery, cavorting with socialites virtually as well as in person, inserting themselves into the custody case of an unstable, financially distressed individual, and most importantly multiple, sustained violations of security requirements - have made HUGE lapses in judgment at the precise moments they were responsible for the lives of service personnel and for the security of this country. I think this ranks as a pretty serious scandal despite the soap opera-esque nature of the details.[/quote]
