When people in sensitive positions have illicit affairs, the main concern is that they would be subject to blackmail. So that's why it's taken seriously and yes, a possible threat to national security.

She is laying low at her brother's house in dc. She was photographed standing in front of an un-curtained window holding a glass of wine; photo in today's WaPo. Maybe she went running in the park.

Anytime someone that high level is potentially compromised -- meaning he has a big ol' secret he could be blackmailed with -- I think it is a threat to national security.

Yes, he was there two week before it happened. It was a CIA operation, not state. 30 of the 34 people were CIA.

I think that the FBI may have overstepped, due to the one agent's "friendship" (if that's what the kids are calling it now) with Kelley. But once they discovered BRoadwell had some level of connection to Petraeus's personal emails, calendar, and classified documents, it was game on.

This is 100% true. Will it matter to the endless clattering of skeletons falling from closets? Wanking little republicans will never stop with this., see, Lewinsky.

I'm a Democrat, and I don't think this is a Republican led conspiracy by any means. Both sides of the aisle rushed to Petraeus' defense. (Inappropriately in my view, and largely because his egomania included a lot of cultivation of politicians and the press.)

And to the PP who thinks it's all irrelevant and private business, you are way wrong. Anytime you have national security officials this high up the chain involved in such sordid messes - adultery, cavorting with socialites virtually as well as in person, inserting themselves into the custody case of an unstable, financially distressed individual, and most importantly multiple, sustained violations of security requirements - have made HUGE lapses in judgment at the precise moments they were responsible for the lives of service personnel and for the security of this country. I think this ranks as a pretty serious scandal despite the soap opera-esque nature of the details.
