You said her goal/hope is to make the high school team? That's a good goal. Is she on a good club team? Clubs are usually way more knowledgeable than schools about recruiting. Assuming she has a good club coach, he/she may be helpful in letting you know whether she has any chance. Encourage her to keep her grades as high as possible. And pursue the colleges she wants academically. College websites have recruiting questionnaires -- she can fill them out to get in their system. I don't know the dates that volleyball coaches can talk to kids, but stay on top of stuff like that. MIT is an unlikely admit for practically anyone, so I don't think I'd put my eggs in that basket.
