Why not just call them and ask them if they'll reduce the price?
I'm the one who made another reservation last weekend. I thought about calling, but calling hotels is super frustrating. They rarely answer or there's an 800-number that puts you on hold. There's nothing that I know of that's inherently better about modifying the original reservation vs. just making a new one, so I just made a new one. Also I can get documentation of the new one emailed to me automatically. There can be miscommunications via phone like a non-hotel reservation I changed recently that the person on the phone messed up and I didn't know until I got there.
Yes, and the only people who have the authority to offer prices outside of the computer pricing system would be the hotel manager or someone high up on the Hilton corporate side- and neither one would be likely to do this for someone who wasn't high level elite or trying to negotiate a long term rate or similar. What you see online is what any regular phone agent will be able to price for you.
