I'm the one who made another reservation last weekend. I thought about calling, but calling hotels is super frustrating. They rarely answer or there's an 800-number that puts you on hold. There's nothing that I know of that's inherently better about modifying the original reservation vs. just making a new one, so I just made a new one.
Also I can get documentation of the new one emailed to me automatically. There can be miscommunications via phone like a non-hotel reservation I changed recently that the person on the phone messed up and I didn't know until I got there.
