In spring, I had a reservation that I ended up not using for a Mimaru Asakusa in Tokyo for 6 nights - it was $2300 all in with tax for those nights. I checked, and now it's double that for a random 6 nights around Xmas at a Tokyo Mimaru.

You may want to see if you can find a hotel very close to a train station, even if it's outside of the city center. Tokyo is so massive that you're going to be traveling no matter what. Perhaps you can find a charming neighborhood to enjoy - and a lower nightly rate.[/quote]

We ended up in Kawasaki by accident for a night due to flight problems. It is quite close to Tokyo by train with a massive train station, and has the most amazing malls and shopping and few tourists. It was an unexpected and interesting experience. [/quote]
