I mentioned this in another thread but a huge part of the problem in DC is that since the "defund the police" movement, lawmakers in DC (but especially white law makers in DC including much of the council) are afraid to be tough on crime because it will be called racist by certain activist groups. Nevermind that plenty of black residents of DC are demanding more police presence and enforcement in their neighborhoods -- since a small but very vocal group of activists is eager to call people racists for, say, wanting to address juvenile crime or repeat offenders, many DC politicians just avoid the issue or capitulate.

Trump doesn't care about being called racist and while he is a terrible human being and I can't wait until he's back out of office, I'm happy for him to take the heat on this issue if it gets us some common sense criminal justice in DC. People can yell at him and his administration and then blame them forever but a lot of us will know that this was what was necessary to break the stalemate we're currently in where we can't enforce the law because it's "inequitable."[/quote]
