My kid isn’t doing the diploma and I had quite the exchange with the math teacher (who is awesome in general) and the IB coordinators on when you can and cannot take the IB exams. It is a hardly known fact that you CAN take an IB test after junior year if you are not part of the diploma program but taking classes a la carte. It took me some feats of communication to get the IB coordinators to admit it in writing, but they really don’t want to deal with kids doing their own path. It’s all diploma, diploma, diploma for them. I would understand it if these were magnet schools where you join specifically for the DP. But in our FCPS IB schools, IB is often the only college-level class work available, and most kids take IB classes a la carte, so they should be more accommodating. It really upsets me. My kid ended up adding an AP online class so now all his sequences end in 12th grade and will take his tests then but it’s not a great arrangement overall.  [/quote]
