I don’t get why you regularly need a key to your kid’s car? If he has problems and you show up he will have a key. If you take it in for service he can leave you the key. We have one car, 2 sets of keys and three people it’s never a problem
Knowing my kid, losing or locking his key in the trunk will be probably the most likely problem.
As a teenager who locked the door with the key in the ignition multiple times, I was always super glad my mom kept the spare on her key ring.
It was a long struggle but I have finally broken my wife of her terrible technique and have taught my children correctly: The only way to lock the doors is by using the key fob after you have closed all the doors and are walking away. If you lock the keys in the ignition, you will be taking the bus home and waiting on the doorstep. I'm a total softy pushover as a dad but I am a tyrant on this ridiculous issue.
I completely agree with you. Natural consequences. You lock yourself out you are going to have to wait while I go home and get the extra keys. Give you some time to think about how you're not going to do this again. I'm not carry 3 sets of keys on the off chance you lock yourself out.
