There is an extensive plan already approved by the county to redo Rt. 1 from the county line at least until the start of Hybla Valley.  This will take 10-15 years to do and then it may extend into the hybla valley.  Metro will extend to Beacon Hill shopping center.  That center and where the Target is will be upscale apartments/condos/ground floor retail.  Plans call for more than 10,000 new residents on Rt1 between county line and Beacon Hill.[/quote]

I just want you to know the I've been hearing about the extensive plans to make that corridor presentable since I moved to Alexandria in 2001. I think the county perceives the Route 1 corridor as their offering to the social welfare gods.[/quote]

I'll believe it when they start shutting down the pay-by-the-hour motels. And I say that as a long time resident who loves the area! This is not a problem that's going to be fixed by more condos and overpriced bus lanes.[/quote]
