MCPS starting salary is $62k and goes up to $127k with experience and qualifications. That's to work 10 months/year.

The median [i]household[/i] income in MoCo is $125k, so a couple right out of college would earn a bit more than the median household income in MoCo, for 10 months of work.

It's not amazing, but I'd say that's not bad either.

Give its a 10 month job, its actually pretty good compared to other county jobs with masters degrees - social work, public health, nurses, etc.  That's why they cannot fill those positions either.  Less benefits, less pay, 12 months.  When I worked for the county, I quit with my first child as we couldn't afford day care on my salary it was so low and I couldn't get to the day care by 5:30 as I often worked till 6:30-7 or later (with no compensation or comp time).  My take home would have been more than my child care.  I suspect its the same for teachers, especially after two young kids.  County should offer child care to lower income employees.[/quote]
