The public education budget sucks. There are no resources. This already causes teacher stress. Then on top of this vicious parents attack teachers for not providing those resources that do not exist. This causes teachers to quit. It’s happening.
What does this mean? Is it on the SAI vocab?

They also get an amazing pension, and it seems like a lot less than 10 months. My kids teachers are out a few days a month so seems more like 9 months when you include the leave that most take.
Yet the vacancies persist. Very few people will actually get to the pension especially if they start teaching now.

Give its a 10 month job, its actually pretty good compared to other county jobs with masters degrees - social work, public health, nurses, etc. That's why they cannot fill those positions either. Less benefits, less pay, 12 months. When I worked for the county, I quit with my first child as we couldn't afford day care on my salary it was so low and I couldn't get to the day care by 5:30 as I often worked till 6:30-7 or later (with no compensation or comp time). My take home would have been more than my child care. I suspect its the same for teachers, especially after two young kids. County should offer child care to lower income employees.

Apart from the lack of discipline here in many American schools, adjusting shouldn't be terribly difficult. The U.S. set up the public educational system in the Philippines when it was a colony. English is also the lingua franca there and taught from a very young age, used for official government proceedings, street signage, etc.
Filipino teachers have been responding to staffing shortages here for decades. I wish them all the best in MCPS.

The school system sucks people. I have taught in it for 10 years. It is bad, real bad. Please, sit in on your childs classes. I say it every time I get on here. Sit in and see what it is like. They are not learning. They are not thriving.

I've also been a teacher for a decade. Most people have NO idea how much time is wasted. For every six hours your child spends at school, there is less than an hour, and likely less than 30 minutes, of actual learning and practice and growth happening.
It is mostly keeping the kids safe (kind of) so their parents can work. That's not the goal, but that's what happens.

Not true. The budget is fine. MCPS spends a very reasonable amount per pupil.
The problem is that the school system wastes money and is completely mismanaged. Plus, there is no accountability.

We have one in my elementary school and she's so lost as a special education teacher. She's used to kids sitting perfectly still in desks and listening while she stands at a chalkboard. That's not our education system. The woman looks like she's going to cry daily. I feel terrible for her. She also left behind her toddlers back home with no idea of when she will see them again. I know MCPS was trying to make our staffing numbers look good to the public but this is not helping anyone in the long run.

Wow! It is weird to just throw them in with no support. American high schools are like the Wild West unlike most other countries. There is almost zero discipline in Maryland public schools. Not sure if it is as bad in other states
