Before you knock it, you try working for an understaffed call center. It is very hard, very stressful work. Long, terrible hours. Mandatory overtime. And it really isn’t for uneducated people- there’s a lot to manage and the stakes are insanely high. And when people call for police help, they really need a social worker and a domestic abuse counselor- not the guys in blue who hate going to these calls, and who are hated by the callers. It is an absolute mess. A pressure cooker. They keep paying more money to try to keep people there buy u less there are huge changes which attract lots of people, it’s going to stay a very very hard job. All of you who are complaining please go work there!
I wouldn't describe that as DC's call center disfunction. They have employees who choose not to show up for work. However, DC doesn't replace them. Since the budget is fixed, you can't hire anyone to replace the workers who refuse to work. No, we can't increase the budget so DC can support a bunch of no-shows.
