The budget needs to go waaaayyy up and then you can stop with the mandatory overtime and horrible conditions. Srsly, it is a terrible job. People can sue you personally for messing up! I think they need to pay these people double.

And it really isn’t for uneducated people- there’s a lot to manage and the stakes are insanely high. It is an absolute mess. A pressure cooker. They keep paying more money to try to keep people there buy u less there are huge changes which attract lots of people, it’s going to stay a very very hard job. All of you who are complaining please go work there!

I wouldn't describe that as DC's call center disfunction. They have employees who choose not to show up for work. However, DC doesn't replace them. Since the budget is fixed, you can't hire anyone to replace the workers who refuse to work. No, we can't increase the budget so DC can support a bunch of no-shows.

My parents had the BCC rescue squad number on our fridge in case something happened.

Did they help him and he died? Sometimes nothing you can do will save a person.

Based on this logic, why even try?

I have had 3 emergencies -
an intruder in the house
an open door the week after the intruder
a neighbor fell (this was just last week)

All times had decent response from 911.
