We went on a cruise to Alaska on Royal Caribbean and it was fine.  It sounds like you went into with a bad attitude.

I have never wanted to go on a cruise either.  But we went because family was going.  It was totally fine.  Food was good - not amazing - but good and some of it was great.  No upgrades.  Plenty of quiet spaces.  Of course entertainment was cheesy but we participated and had fun.  I learned some interesting corny things!  I did the fitness classes.  We stared at the ocean and saw whales in the distance.  Beautiful scenery.

Loved just sitting around chatting with family while spotting the whales.  We did some excursions.

I mean, maybe not luxury but we enjoyed it enough to consider doing it again.  It was easy to plan and I enjoyed not worrying about spending while on the ship.[/quote]
