Next year we are doing an international trip in summer so would like to stay US bound for spring break. I would prefer not to go to Florida and we are from Arizona and Texas so we have been to those places enough. We also have been to California a few times but aren't entirely opposed to going again.
But what have your favorite US based spring break trips been? We aren't skiers but generally into most anything else. Love hiking, museums, amusement parks, nature, cities, food etc.

Is the area where St Regis is a good base? We are adventurous so would want access activities other than just going to the beach.
We stayed at Wyndham Rio Mar, which is often recommended on this site. We thought it was great, although the water at the beach is pretty rough (but the Wyndam is surrounded by a gated golf community, so the beach is as close as you get to private in PR -- there were always open chairs on the beach and it was a lovely wide beach). It is right outside the entrance to El Junque, about 45 minutes from Old Town San Juan (we took an uber in), and about 20 minutes from the dock that a lot of boats leave from. Our vacation was 5 days and that was pretty perfect -- we spent one day at El Yunque, one day visiting Old San Juan and the forts, one day we were going to take a boat trip to snorkel at Culebra but it was sadly cancelled for high seas, and the other days we spent at the pool/beach. We got a great price through Costco Travel. There are other places closer to San Juan, if you want to be able to do more city stuff.

Too cold at spring break time. Maybe even snowy.

yup! PR is on the list. How expensive is PR once you get there? Like US prices for food/activities or more/less expensive?
We were there about a year ago. We could get lunches for $10 or less. Dinners--depends where you go. Unless you go to the high end restaurants you will be paying a lot less for dinners than in urban US restaurants. High end restaurants will be about the same as high end restaurants in the US.
We found the rental car to be very inexpensive.
Which beaches have the calmest water?
