So DC wants to bring instrument + sheet music (to practice and get “really really good at it”), and math workbook (because “math is fun”) on a trip, along with chapter books for reading AND a craft. Yes I do sometimes wonder about ADHD… Do you let them take “work” on long trips, or encourage them to just soak up vacation and family time? DH says it’s fine, but I wonder if I need to enforce a break.
It's not "work" to your DC. Your DC said "math is fun." Some kids and adults truly love math and find the puzzles of math just as fun and entertaining as card games or table puzzles. Why would you want to prevent DC from doing something they enjoy on vacation? (My answer would be completely different if YOU were suggesting that your DC do math exercises on vacation and it wasn't something he/she enjoys. But if it's coming from them, bring it on, let them enjoy vacation time doing things they love.)
