When I field calls, they generally just verify dates of employment and job title. About 25% ask if the employee is eligible for re-hire, which is answered honestly. On background checks that we do, if an employee is not eligible for rehire or if there is discrepancy in information provided, it raises a red flag. They are given the opportunity to explain, but most of the time, the offer will be rescinded. No one wants to start off an employment relationship with a lie.[/quote]
