ours is always middle of the day and traditionally kids leave with their parents and go out to lunch. We're given the date at the beginning of the school year and just take the day off. A few kids don't have parents attend and just sit an watch movies all day
Same. Our's is at 1:00 and a big part of that is to make sure all the kids can get there. They go to school in the morning like usual and are all bussed to the ceremony location (our ES is big so we use the HS auditorium). Kids can go home with their parents afterwards or go back to the school. I would not expect teachers and administration to give up their evening for the ceremony. Honestly, a standing meeting with senior executives is the exact type of meeting you can miss. It not like it's the only chance. If your DH was sick, he'd miss the meeting and not think anything of it.
