Welcome to Alexandria. Want to see how your dollars are squandered? Go sit in front of any of the east end grade schools at drop off. Half the traffic is 20 something black ladies with beat up Altimas with MD tags dumping a car load of kids out.
This simply isn't true. And who would make that kind of effort to send their kids to Alexandria's schools. Some of the east end schools (George Mason, Brooks, Mount Vernon) are the worst in town.
Wait, Brooks is now one of the worst? That's my school. Is this true?
It's true. Look at the proficiency numbers for the kids who can't afford tutors. 27% in reading and 25% in math. 41 reported incidents of behaviors of a safety concern 7 reported incidents for behaviors that endanger the health, safety or welfare of others. Even George Mason, the other really bad east side school, isn't as bad as Brooks.
Sure, but we aren't talking with the mom of a kid at 27%. Context matters. But you knew that.
I think it's more that privilege matters. I've been in Alexandria long enough to know that the mom of kids not in the 27% don't care at all about the 73% of low income kids at Brooks who cannot read. They can ignore how bad the schools are while hiring tutors: "my kid is doing great academically!" and they can ignore how violent even the elementary schools have become because: "my kid never sees the violence!". You are callous and you reek of privilege. But you knew that.
Nobody but you GAF about your 'privilege' argument, especially when people like you try to conflate it with the results of work, decency, and ambition. My kids earned it. The other kids are lazy brats with crappy parents. I'd love it Jeff ID' you. I'd bet $50 you are exactly what I know you are.
