At the end of the day, I signed up to teach. I don’t need additional perks. I just want to teach. I don’t need housing. I just want to teach. How can I do that? I hate to say it BUT we need to go back to how it was. Take away the electronics. Laptops and cellphones included. Give these kids pencil and paper. Go back to having class segregated with on grade level, below and above. If your child has an IEP or 504 for whatever the damn reason is, they need to go to a specialized school.
I agree with this to a point. I do think that classes needed to go back to being separated by levels for reading and math. I also think that SOME students with 504 or IEP's should not be mainstreamed. I think it should be determined by whether a child is available for learning and does not disrupt the learning of others. Only a small portion of kids with 504 and IEP's fit into this category, but they shouldn't be mainstreamed until they can be functioning members of the class. In fact, any child who is unable to participate in class without disruption should not abe allowed to interfere with anyone else's learning. Tbh, I think if just these two things were figured out, teachers would be fine.
