I want my kid focused on effort, not outcome. If her grades are good, I don't want her slacking off and if her grades are bad, I don't want her getting discouraged if she's putting in the effort. Early elementary grades are mostly meaningless anyway. I share with her broad strokes of how she's doing when I see it as appropriate. She's good at math but seems to have some anxiety around it, so I encourage her to remember that she's good at math for example, but that's all more nuanced and involved than just handing her her report card to read.[/quote]
