Boring. And the SkyActive engines operate at absurd levels of compression for gasoline engines.
Boring? Compared to what, exactly? Mazdas are generally FAR more fun to drive than any of the mainstream non-luxury brands (Toyota, Honda, the US brands, etc.).
Aside from the Miata, (which is now too heavy and fat for it’s available power) I would not call any of their offerings “fun”. The rest of their entire line consists of non-hot hatchbacks, AWD wagons and boring sedans.
180 hp for 2400 lbs is “heavy and fat”? You don’t know what you are talking about
Yes. 1 hp per 13.6lbs is indeed heavy and fat. That’s a worse power to weight ratio than an a Honda Accord 4 door sedan or a Toyota Camry. And the lowly Dodge Charger positively humiliates the Miata with over 30% more power per pound. So yes, the Miata is heavy and fat for it’s diminutive little underpowered 4 banger, short on both HP and torque - and what little torque it does make comes on halfway up the tach, of no use getting the car off the line or launching out of a corner after a downshift right before the apex. (It should be obvious to you by now that not only have I owned several Miatas, but I’ve raced them and modified them extensively.) My best Miata was a C-series with a swapped-in Ford 302 from a Fox-body Mustang and Tremec 5 spd. Once you’ve driven a Miata with enough engine to take advantage of the suspension, you get mad at Mazda for forcing such a pathetically underpowered car on the public. So yeah, I definitely know what I’m talking about. Far more so than you.
