We spend what we are comfortable spending financially for an only child. Math enrichment $3,000 for two different classes, a competition class and a grade level class and competitions. Rec sports, $1,000, he plays a rec sport every season. Scouts $1,000 (guessing here) dues, campouts, summer camp, uniforms and the like. Summer Camps $1,000 for non-Scout related camps. Next year he is likely to drop one of the math classes, he wants to keep the competition math.
6 months of Scouts is $1000 for one kid?? Can you tell us more about this? I know very little about Scouts, but assumed you paid like $100 for registration/uniform, and maybe more here and there for an overnight or outing.
Scouts is year round, he is in a Troop. He does summer camp and winter camp plus the monthly camps and dues. Dues are about $120 for a year. Regular monthly camping, for a weekend, is about $25 a weekend. Summer camp is about $600 for a week of over night camp. Winter camp is about $200. He is pretty active and the camps are a lot of fun. He does merit badges and hangs out with his friends. You can easily do Scouts spending less but you lose the summer camp or winter camp experiences, which are a ton of fun.
