Boring. And the SkyActive engines operate at absurd levels of compression for gasoline engines.
Boring? Compared to what, exactly? Mazdas are generally FAR more fun to drive than any of the mainstream non-luxury brands (Toyota, Honda, the US brands, etc.).
Aside from the Miata, (which is now too heavy and fat for it’s available power) I would not call any of their offerings “fun”. The rest of their entire line consists of non-hot hatchbacks, AWD wagons and boring sedans.
I guess it's a matter of frame of reference. Compare any of Mazda's offerings to mainstream competition (Toyota, Honda, Kia, Ford, etc., etc.) and the Mazda will be more fun to drive--heavier steering, better handling, often torque-ier. Compared to German luxury brands? Mazda isn't very "fun", but that's not a fair comparison. Overall, Mazda does a better job than its competitors at avoiding "couch on wheels" syndrome. Check the C&D or Motortrend reviews--it's a consistent theme.
