I found out about it last year. Parenting them through this stuff is so tricky. My parents were very strict so I just lied about everything and that's not the dynamic I want to create with my kids. We've decided our primary goal is to keep the lines of communication open. We're able to counsel and share our values in an organic way because they talk to us. We can also share our boundaries/lines in the sand, because they do exists. We're not interested in our kids being popular or any crap like that, we're invested in them learning to make sound decision while trying to keep them safe.[/quote]
