I feel like I missed something. We didn't get any emails (or maybe I missed reading it) about criteria based magnets. I just went online to check but am still not clear. Do you have to apply for this or the school automatically does this for you? My kid is in GT and meets the requirements I see online - A's in Math and Science, 97th percentile (so above the 85th minimum). If we had to do it ourselves I am going to beat myself over this for years to come. I saw the interest based lottery email and applied but we didn't get in.
You didn't do anything wrong. It's an automatic process, and there's not even some sort of opt out that you could have accidentally clicked. Did you get anything in the mail today? If not, that's okay. If you didn't get anything in the mail and you didn't get an email, sounds like your kid didn't get lucky in the first round of the lottery. There will obviously be kids who turned down a spot, either because of distance or because of interest or because they somehow lucked out and got a spot in both programs. But the important part for now is that you didn't screw up. Your kid may be just didn't get lucky this cycle, and might get lucky soon.
