No. My kid got in to TPMS last Jan but waitlisted for Eastern. In July he was offered a space at Eastern.

We were specifically told we would be taken out of the pool for one if we accepted the other. I wonder if your experience was due to the trouble they had filling spots at Eastern last year.

I was told that the same things several years ago, and it turned out to be not true. I had explicitly called DCCAP to ask the question and was told my child would be removed from the wait list if I accepted one of the programs. I just decided to take the bird in the hand even though it wasn't the program my child was the most excited about. Later, they were accepted off the wait list at their preferred program and I gave up the original spot.

We received our acceptance email for TPMS magnet this morning. DS's grades are good, but we were not expecting a spot since its a lottery and very competitive. TPMS is our zone school, so that that probably helped. Excited to hear such great things about the school on this board and the community.

Thank you to the PPs for posting that I didn't have to do anything. I would have gotten an anxiety attack (or maybe already did after seeing this thread lol). Since we didn't get any notification if we were even in the lottery I went and appealed. Not sure if that will matter. Deadline is 2/2/24.

That's odd because it's a lottery.

It is but they went way through the waitlist at eastern and had trouble filling spots. That doesn’t explain why some families got two offers up front though.

The results for the Grade 5 central review and lottery for Regional /Countywide Middle School (criteria-based) programs (Takoma Park, Eastern, King, Clemente) were mailed to homes the week of January 16, 2024. A copy of the results letter can also be found in your ParentVUE account by January 26, 2024.

If we had to do it ourselves I am going to beat myself over this for years to come. I saw the interest based lottery email and applied but we didn't get in.

Your kid would have been considered automatically. If you haven’t got an email he wasn’t offered a place initially. You’ll get the notification soon (mail and ParentVue) to tell you if he was in the pool. If in the pool for Eastern it moves a lot.

You didn't do anything wrong. It's an automatic process, and there's not even some sort of opt out that you could have accidentally clicked.

Did you get anything in the mail today? If not, that's okay. If you didn't get anything in the mail and you didn't get an email, sounds like your kid didn't get lucky in the first round of the lottery. There will obviously be kids who turned down a spot, either because of distance or because of interest or because they somehow lucked out and got a spot in both programs.

But the important part for now is that you didn't screw up. Your kid may be just didn't get lucky this cycle, and might get lucky soon.

Do you have to apply for this or the school automatically does this for you? My kid is in GT and meets the requirements I see online - A's in Math and Science, 97th percentile (so above the 85th minimum).
