I usually peel the onions, put them in ziplock bags and keep in the fridge for daily use. No smell and no tears when I have to cut them. My cleaning lady will chop a huge Costco sized bag of onions for me and I keep it in a container in fridge (or ziplock). The trick is to wrap the whole container or bag with cling wrap a few times to prevent the smell from escaping. It is perfectly ok to cook with cut onions and peppers that has been on the fridge the night before or even a couple days. [/quote]
