Basically the idea is why should innocent people who haven't ever done anything wrong be banned from having a gun for whatever purpose (shooting range, self protection, hunting, etc) because other people use them for evil.

Some will respond, well what about automatic weapons.  But isn't that a slippery slope where each successive type of weapon is unavailable?   People don't agree on the line of what should be allowed.

Also, there is an assumption that gun control will make it safer because criminals won't be able to get guns.  But that doesn't work for drugs, didn't work for alcohol during prohibition, etc. [/quote]

People shouldn't feel the need to protect themselves with guns! Like someone said before, gun contro or ban would probably not prevent a black market but it would certainly reduced guns landing on evil hands!. You do not need automatic weapons to hunt, you do not need an arsenal to protect yourself if that is what people think then this country is doomed.[/quote]
