Basically the idea is why should innocent people who haven't ever done anything wrong be banned from having a gun for whatever purpose (shooting range, self protection, hunting, etc) because other people use them for evil.
Some will respond, well what about automatic weapons. But isn't that a slippery slope where each successive type of weapon is unavailable? People don't agree on the line of what should be allowed.
Also, there is an assumption that gun control will make it safer because criminals won't be able to get guns. But that doesn't work for drugs, didn't work for alcohol during prohibition, etc.

My uncle lives in the middle of nowhere Alaska. He carries a gun everywhere he goes to protect himself against bears or wolves.
