Gun nuts would be all over any attempt to connect the dots on gun ownership. Under the Firearm Owners Protection Act, it is illegal for the government to build one. The government knows where I buy gas and what restaurants I frequent, but they cannot know whether I own a gun. For each gun-related crime, they have to do an investigation to see if they can trace it from the manufacturer all the way through to the last owner.

Agree completely. And I'll add that the "system" needs to be able to connect the dots and get names on lists so that names pop up on the background checks. As a society, we are too afraid to hurt feelings. Should have happened with Cho at Va Tech and should had have happened in Colorado.

Basically the idea is why should innocent people who haven't ever done anything wrong be banned from having a gun for whatever purpose (shooting range, self protection, hunting, etc) because other people use them for evil.

Some will respond, well what about automatic weapons. But isn't that a slippery slope where each successive type of weapon is unavailable? People don't agree on the line of what should be allowed.

Also, there is an assumption that gun control will make it safer because criminals won't be able to get guns. But that doesn't work for drugs, didn't work for alcohol during prohibition, etc.



People shouldn't feel the need to protect themselves with guns! Like someone said before, gun contro or ban would probably not prevent a black market but it would certainly reduced guns landing on evil hands!. You do not need automatic weapons to hunt, you do not need an arsenal to protect yourself if that is what people think then this country is doomed.

No, it's not a slippery slope. We already had an assault weapons ban, and the slope did not slip.

Exactly. So coming to my original question, why there isn't a good law for gun control?? why??? aren't we a 1st world country? or in that matter we are still like in the Far West times...gun rules?
