Unfortunately she was formally diagnosed with ADHD only last summer, i.e. right after the IAAT was administered in 6th grade. I will certainly explore the 504 moving forward, but at this point I am not sure if a request to be placed in Algebra 1 after during the 1st quarter can even be made.?
Did you try to appeal the original decision over the summer? That's usually the process.
I would if I had the ADHD results back then, unfortunately these took some time to be communicated to us by the health provider.
500 = Advanced SOL 7 qualifies for Algebra. The IAAT percentile is the screener so shouldn't be more relevant than the actual SOL. Talk to the math teacher and principal. Current teacher should be able to vouch.
So is the IAAT just a screener but not a requirement?
Unless your child is passionate about math, I would leave it be. AP precalc in 11 and AP Calc BC in 12th is already a challenging schedule. Yes, your kid would probably do fine in Alg 1, but the extra acceleration isn’t necessary.
She is currently getting a bit bored in class and she really wants to go to Alg1 herself, its not me pushing her.
The IAAT is not just a screener, it is a requirement. Some schools will reconsider students and place them in Algebra if they have a high SOL score but just miss the 91st percentile on the IOWA, but the time to ask about that would have been over the summer. You could talk to the principal, but you are probably out of luck.
