I always felt that Tesla drivers were buying those cars for the elitism and status, without any clue about what they were really getting. I was right. I never see a Tesla driver who doesn't look like a complete tool or SAHM to wealthy tool.
Huh? From my own Indian-American perspective, people in my community bought Hondas and Toyotas as their starting cars/minivans- because of reliability, cost and utility. When they had a bit of extra money they moved on to Lexus, BMW, Audi, Porsche for status and comfort. Most of them are getting Tesla for their drive-around-the-town car that is eco-friendly. It is not seen as elite but a very pragmatic choice in terms of reliability, eco-friendly, cost, features, safety etc. It appeals to our nerdy and cost-conscious mindset. And you can bet your bottom dollar that most Indian-American Tesla owners have solar roofs at home or free chargers at work. Idiots we are not! What elitism and status? Musk is producing Tesla in India now. It is going to flood the domestic market in India and going to be as common as your corner snack-vendor.
