Alexandrias futsal program is too big in relation to the amount of court space they have available. They struggle to find a place that works, they secure for it a year or two then they wear out their welcome A few examples for those that have been around a while OneLife Fitness on Eisenhower was used for one year District Sports Center used a couple of years Outdoor lay down courts on top of turf at Brenman Tennis courts throughout Alexandria Browne Academy and the list goes on and on Point is they have run out of options. Either shrink the program which defeats the revenue generating model or find alternative space that can accommodate the program. Your travel issues are not their problem.
Curious - why did you say they “wear out their welcome” at any of the previous locations? Was there some issue with Alexandria players or families using the aforementioned practice spaces? None that I’m aware of. In any case, of course my “travel issues” aren’t Alexandria’s problem, except to the extent that I am part of that “revenue generating model” as a paying customer. Not all families have an au pair or a stay-at-home parent who can drive anywhere needed; not all families have one child, many have multiple children for whom they’re trying to juggle school and extracurricular activities with parent work schedules; some families are single-car families or rely on public transportation for some of their getting around the CRAZINESS that is DMV traffic during evening rush hour. A relocation of this significance out of the City of Alexandria—through a traffic choke point to a destination in Maryland across the Potomac—is a big deal for some families. It would have been nice had this been clearly communicated to parents with the recognition of what a major change it is—well enough in advance to allow those families to make other plans. (It would have been even nicer for parents to have been asked for input into this decision before it was finalized.) I am sure it’s just an oversight or underestimation by someone of what a big deal this is for some families. We’ve been happy to be part of the ASA futsal program and have nothing but positive things to say about the program itself. While I’m disappointed they’re relocating it to Maryland, I’m just glad that I found out about it by luck on this forum while there is still time to consider other options.
