Close Marks

You sound like my mother. She was always complaining her house didn't have any closet space and they needed more closets. It never once occurred to her that the problem was that the closets were completely full of items she did not use and would never miss. Do a mass cleanout of the junk in your basement. Make three piles: keep, toss, and donate. For every item you keep, at least five items need to leave the house. As I have frequently told my husband, most things do not grow better with age. It's better to get them to someone who can use them before they deteriorate.
I'm sure there is some stuff we can purge, but I'm talking about stuff like Christmas decorations, camping supplies, suitcases, sports equipment... things that we use but not year round.
It sounds like you don't have a garage. Is adding a garage or shed an option? Camping and sports stuff can go there. Possibly Christmas decorations if you protect them really well. That just leaves suitcases in your half bath, which seems fine. Alternatively, you could have a plumber remove and cap the toilet, and leave the rest of the bath in place and use it as storage without destroying it.
