Wonder what the wait times will be at beach restaurants? DeSantis is killing Florida.
Ummm, wrong. Florida has had a massive inflow of people moving there from blue states. Keep up, grandma.
That's true. But those are not the people who are going to fill those jobs. A huge number of them are remote workers looking to get more house for their dollar, better weather, etc. They aren't moving there to pick tomatoes or spread concrete. It's not a question of whether or not FL is a desirable place to live, it's a question of whether the jobs that need to be done are desirable to the people moving there. And they aren't. And I agree that we should pay a living wage as a default to all workers, which might make those jobs interesting to more Americans. But the fact is that we as a country are not to suddenly be cool with paying $4/tomato or a house costing significantly more in order to make that happen.
And just to add to this ^ - we already have an affordable housing crisis in Florida. DeSantis just kicked 250k people off Medicaid, too. Do you think the people who have unstable housing and healthcare can suddenly absorb food prices shooting through the roof? https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2023/05/17/florida-medicaid-eligibility-coverage-children/
