The study found that murder rates in the 25 states Trump carried in 2020 are 40% higher overall than in the states Biden won. (The report used 2020 data because 2021 data is not yet fully available.) The five states with the highest per capita murder rate — Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Alabama and Missouri — all lean Republican and voted for Trump.
https://news.yahoo.com/republican-controlled-states-have-higher-murder-rates-than-democratic-ones-study-212137750.html?guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly9uZXdzLXlhaG9vLWNvbS5jZG4uYW1wcHJvamVjdC5vcmcv&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAJ-fiqVqpnEf_Xv4BNVAaKn6bQXP2vbHNQPlzCJl5xHPHwcTcfUVfFCv1RMwpvOzr6SYKQq6N7XcTgCF614xv-6kK2Pg7KIsKwPiB_1obiJJHCOKZAW3U4BpneEUsE5n68WXajjpLe21soOtjNnf3RnsV_yMYkDUjkZuYCdQqT5c
Now instead of doing it by state, do it by city.
I didn't do this analysis. If you would like to publish a report analyzing crime rates by city & political leadership, I think that would be really interesting. You'd have to control for demographics & concentrated poverty.
https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/murder-map-deadliest-u-s-cities/66/ Based on the state link posted above, the per-capita Homicide of the top 10 has Mississippi at #11 and 20.50, and Tennessee at #10 at 9.90. Now let's look at the city data. #1 is St Louis at 64.54. #10 is Cleveland at 24.09. You have to get down to #22 on the list (Atlanta, 19.53) to find one with a lower rate than the #1 on the state list. I don't think there's a need to control for demographics or poverty as not only is that not done in the state data, but demographics and poverty is kind of the point. Those in charge in any place with high crime should focus on getting it lower based on the situation in that location, whatever it is.
