The only thing declining since the 90’s is the murder rate

Right. Cold day in hell before I'd send my kid to my publics in SS and let her walk around Wheaton Plaza. No, much has changed.

Now instead of doing it by state, do it by city.

I didn't do this analysis. If you would like to publish a report analyzing crime rates by city & political leadership, I think that would be really interesting. You'd have to control for demographics & concentrated poverty.

https://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/murder-map-deadliest-u-s-cities/66/

Based on the state link posted above, the per-capita Homicide of the top 10 has Mississippi at #11 and 20.50, and Tennessee at #10 at 9.90.

Now let's look at the city data. #1 is St Louis at 64.54. #10 is Cleveland at 24.09. You have to get down to #22 on the list (Atlanta, 19.53) to find one with a lower rate than the #1 on the state list.

I don't think there's a need to control for demographics or poverty as not only is that not done in the state data, but demographics and poverty is kind of the point. Those in charge in any place with high crime should focus on getting it lower based on the situation in that location, whatever it is.

Nobody trusts a republican to run a city. There are no Republican cities except fort worth tx.

There are many more, though they are not the norm. Some are quite high crime while others are not. Crime tracks more by socioeconomic status than by political ideology. I think that’s quite clear but everyone keeps making it about politics.

They make it about politics to distract from racist and unconstitutional policing.

I used to be fine with going to the Wheaton Target, but this is I believe the eighth carjacking at the mall since December.

Crime is up in many places and it's not related to political ideology. Silver Spring/Wheaton has always been higher crime. I live right by the mall, was actually there when the shooting happened. It's definitely scary but this alone won't stop me from going. I do try to avoid the garage

Natali Fani-Gonzalez

This is a county-wide issue, though, and the entire council needs to get on top of this. The Public Safety Committee (Katz, Mink, Luedtke) should definitely be involved.)
