Oh please stop being mean to OP. Not doing well on random assessments can lower your grade. It doesn’t mean the kid has a learning disability. My kid is in CES and occasionally gets a C or a D on a random assignment or a test. It's not a big deal. No learning issues. These are kids and they can sometimes make mistakes. And they should be allowed to make mistakes. It doesn’t mean you get evaluations done. Why do they have to perform perfectly on every single test starting in elementary school? Talk about pressure … no wonder every teenager is depressed and anxious.
If this kid is struggling in reading, you get the kid help. Your kid doesn't sound like they should be in CES.
My kid is not struggling in reading. A random C on a test does not mean anyone is struggling in anyway. Kid had an off day, didn’t pay attention, was rushing could by anything. Getting a D overall in reading or a sub category of reading is very different from getting a random C on a test.
Are you OP or the CES parent? We did! We paid a lot of money for private testing and know exactly how to remediate kids with dyslexia and dysgraphia, but MCPS refuses to acknowledge the science of reading. I’m asking what the heck does “Foundational Skills” mean if it’s graded every quarter? If it’s phonemic awareness or some other component of literacy then *actually* say that. The current report card doesn’t align with what they are actually teaching in the classroom. OP needs to get a reading evaluation. You need to get your kid tutoring or pull them from CES.
