A small group ? The country is divided equally between liberals and conservatives. If it was just a small group of "religious fanatics", then Congress would take action by enacting a law or laws which would counter the Dobbs decision.

And yet now Republicans are fighting amongst themselves about whether to fully ban abortion in various states, and some national Republicans wouldn’t discuss the issue at all because they knew their party, and the Dobbs decision, was out of step with majority public opinion. So we know who the fanatics are.[/quote]
