This is all super helpful! I would like a fenced yard (we have a dog)--if big enough to have a garden, all the better, but that's not a must. Would love a friendly neighborhood, but not one that is super insular/gossipy. I don't need any more drama in my life :) Prefer no HOA. No busy street, not close to a major highway, and safe (have heard of break-ins in both areas, but hoping those are few and far between). Kids are in school in Mclean, I will need to commute into DC 3x/wk.
Depending on your budget, I might look at McLean Hamlet. We left Arlington to get a yard and don’t miss it. My family loves the neighborhood and having friends readily available. Plenty of private school families and there are older homes that are primed to be tear downs if you want a new build. Nowhere to walk to other than the pool/tennis or the rec center, but the Boro and Tysons is a five minute drive.
