And the state will not allow someone who does not meet criteria for nursing home level of care to stay there. When someone is referred for nursing home care, paperwork is completed to determine eligibility for LTC - it’s in place to protect people from being warehoused inappropriately in nursing homes. If someone meets the criteria, they (or their POA) must work with the facility to apply for LTC Medicaid (or private pay/spend down assets). Otherwise, they will be billed. Or they will call Adult Protective Services for assistance.[/quote]
