Sometimes the state says no and extra days are added. [/quote] In VA we can use hours or days to measure the school year. Many school systems would add minutes to the school day rather than end the year later. In MD, they only count days (or at least that was the case when I taught there 15 years ago). The use of hours also allows school systems to add 10 mintues to each school day and have more padding for “emergency” days.[/quote]
