As they’ve progressed in scouting they’ve been given more responsibility. Now as a young adult, they can continue in scouting as a leader or a volunteer at the council level. I don’t know why anyone would need to give it up to try new things. Volunteering takes a few hours most weeks, sometimes more if there is an event or overnight occurring. Not sure why you could do both a paid internship or academic research AND volunteer. Isn’t that what most adults do when they want to volunteer—they go to work and volunteer in their free time.
